What is a dental veneer?
A dental veneer is just a way that we can reshape a patient's tooth with a material. Usually, it's porcelain, and it helps us make things more ideal, more aesthetic, and helps you create the smile that you want. Dental veneers are used a lot for patients who have spaces between their teeth or who don't like how their teeth look because they're a little too sharp or short.
A lot of times, we use veneers to change the shape, size, or even the color of the teeth. Veneers are a permanent restoration, so they stay on your teeth.
What is the process of getting dental veneers?
You're going to come in for the first appointment, and we're actually going to show you what it's going to look like before we do the work. That way, you can make adjustments and make sure you're happy with everything before you leave. Then we'll actually do a small adjustment of your teeth so that we can give the veneers enough space to be put on there.
You're going to leave that day with temporary veneers that already look just like the ones that you want. The material is going to be kind of a temporary filling material, but it's going to hold on there for just enough time for the laboratory to make your final, real porcelain veneers. Those are going to come back from the laboratory. We're going to try them in, make sure that you love them, and then we'll put them on your teeth.
Will veneers match the color of your teeth?
Will veneers match the color of your teeth is a really good question we get from patients. It depends. Do you want them to match the color of your teeth, or do you want to lighten your teeth a little bit? Typically, patients want to go a little bit lighter with the shade. So, we always recommend that if you're not doing veneers on all your teeth, we do whitening for our patients ahead of time. We get the shade that they want, and then we do the veneers and make those veneers the color that you want them to be.
What are the differences between porcelain and composite veneers?
Porcelain veneers tend to be a little bit more expensive. Composite veneers are a little bit cheaper. The difference is completely in the material.
At Kingwood Implant Dentistry & Prosthodontics, we only offer porcelain veneers, and there's a reason why:
Composite veneers are just like filling material. That's the same material they use for fillings. If you had a cavity and you went to the dentist and they took your cavity out that day and put in a filling material, that works really well for that indication. What we've seen with patients who get veneers done with that type of material is that the material typically stains after a few years. It could be because of coffee. It's just that the material itself absorbs a lot more food and a lot more pigments from our food.
Porcelain is a very, very clean material. It's fabricated in the laboratory. It is made in a furnace, almost like when people do pottery and fire something in a furnace to make it really hard. That's how they make porcelain hard, and it's really clean, it doesn't stain, and it lasts a lot longer. Our office only offers porcelain veneers. The reason is that we have a dedication to the quality of our work, and we want to make sure that you have a long-lasting result that you're very happy with.
Do dental veneers require special care?
That's a good question, and the answer is no. We treat them just like your teeth. I want you to brush them every day for two minutes at the very least, morning and night. I also want our patients to floss every day in between their teeth, once a day at least, at nighttime. That's really it. You don't really have to do anything different with veneers than you do with your teeth.
What's the cost of a typical dental veneer?
At our office, a dental veneer typically costs around $1,800 in that area. It just depends on your situation and what you need to have done, but $1,800 is typically the cost for it. And yes, we definitely have payment options.
Our team offers various financing options to make dental implants more affordable, and we will work with you to create a payment plan that meets your needs and budget. Just like you'd buy a car, you can finance your treatment here with us. There are a lot of no-interest payment options so that you're not losing any money. Our office actually covers the interest payment for you.
